My work is about observing and documenting the present. I am influenced by the local and global news. I get my concepts to create by doing informal and archival research on social, economic and environmental issues that I deeply care about.
Drawing helps me to explore my research findings and understand spatial relationships between objects. I use reclaimed materials to express my thoughts when possible. Sometimes the materials I find have a direct correlation to an incident in the news. I like to make these connections visually present in the objects I make. The work becomes an extension of my experiences and how I view the world.
In the Extraction Series the work explores the process of Hydraulic Fracturing (fracking) in the U.S. The layers of Earth’s crusts have been isolated for further inspection. Some of the pieces have been dissected to show a cross section of oil and gas wells present on thousands of acres on our countries land. The pieces play with size and space to show the essence of scale in the actual Fracking operation.
